Arsenal are on the verge of landing Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer. Lichsteiner has won 14 trophies with Juventus since joining the club back in 2011 but the 34-year-old right-back has confirmed he will not be playing his football in Turin next season. Unai Emery is on the hunt for defensive reinforcements following his appointment as Arsenal head coach and Lichsteiner has emerged as a serious target.

World Cup It’s understood the Gunners have held advanced talks with Lichsteiner and the Switzerland international is set to be Emery’s first signing at the Emirates. According to The Evening Standard, the experienced full-back has even visited the club’s London Colney training ground.

Lichtsteiner confirmed earlier this month that he will move on from Juve this summer following seven years with the Serie A giants. ‘I don’t chase money and I need a place where I’ll have a good quality of life,’ the Swiss said. ‘My wife and children have to be happy and that wouldn’t be the case in China. I don’t need more money.’

relegation Emery is looking to provide competition for Hector Bellerin ahead of the 2018/19 campaign. The Spaniard was Arsenal’s only recognised right-back in the first-team after Mathieu Debuchy completed a permanent move to Saint-Etienne in January.
