Serena, 35, was photographed by Mario Testino for the spread, which is featured in the September issue of Vogue 

The tennis star revealed on Instagram that the photos were taken just a few days after she announced she was expecting 

Serena noted that she experienced waves of energy and exhaustion during the shoot, admitting she had to take an hour break at one point

The athlete and her fiancé, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, are expecting their first child together in September
